Carla Lowry
The Sara Lee Stevens-Youngs Family Memorial Fund was established in October of 2002 by Carla Lowry, Glenn Youngs and their families, in memory of their mother.  The family is able to recommend distributions from the fund and contribute to charities that are meaningful to them and at the same time honor the memory of their mother.

The most recent distribution from the Sara Lee Stevens – Youngs Family Memorial Fund was to Stuarts Opera House. Carla Lowry said of the grant, “The distribution to the Opera House was made because they've made such wonderful efforts in restoration, displaying local and out of town talent, and being a great neighbor in Appalachian Ohio.  Our fund, the Sara Lee Stevens Youngs Family Memorial Fund, had not thought about the Opera House as a granting option until the CEO/President of FAO, Leslie Lilly, brought the anniversary to our attention.  My family thought it was a great opportunity to reward the Opera House for its wonderful work and, it fit well with the memory of our mother who was a theater, music and arts lover.”

Kevin Ritz

Former Colorado Rockies Baseball pitcher Kevin Ritz and his wife, Sally, say sharing their resources is about supporting what has been most important to them, including community services, increased recreational opportunities for young people and an enhanced quality of life for families and children in the area where they live.

Kevin says Little League and Babe Ruth baseball were instrumental in shaping who he is today; they provided important growth opportunities and he wants to ensure the same for youth in the area where he, Sally, and their children now call home. Establishing the Kevin Ritz Family foundation at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio has helped Kevin and Sally meet this goal.  Through working with FAO, the Ritzes where able to focus on their charitable donations while FAO handled the administrative and investment responsibilities of their fund.

Wayne F. White
The Wayne F. White Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Wayne White, the Director of the Ohio Appalachian Center for Higher Education (OACHE), who died unexpectedly on September 30, 2004 at the age of 62.

White was a committed advocate for higher education and dedicated most of his career to education. In honor of his desire to make college more accessible for young people in Appalachian Ohio, the scholarship fund will provide one or more awards annually for students who reside in and are graduating from high schools located in this 29 county region.
